Returning to the Studio
So I was super excited to return to the shared studio I rent with 4-5 other artists. I looked forward to the camaraderie and art talk. I was more than a little bummed to find my stuff had been shoved against a wall, that there were beer cans and cigarette butts everywhere, and the place was a pigsty.
However, it was good to see everyone, see what they’ve been making in the last year - some really exciting stuff, as far as I’m concerned. I looked around, bewildered at the mess I had left behind over a year earlier, wondering where to start. But I tidied a bit, set my space back right, and began a small acrylic painting about the sky. Missouri skies have fascinated me since childhood and are a large chunk of the reason I moved back to St. Louis from the Bay Area after 20 years.
The painting is in its early, sucky stages. But I’ll go back and keep going back until it’s in its later, sucky stage. And then I’ll fix it.
I’ve been so prolific at home during the last 8 months I forget that’s okay to have something take a while to do.
